Seeking Odysseus

I assume you have heard legends about the ancient Greeks. They were heroic, they were brave skilled sailors, furious warriors. I was always impressed by them as a child. I even imagined myself there.. sailing the sea, searching for the new land

And that's exactly what this trip is - a beautiful journey. It has great sightseeing, loads of history, amazing beaches, and a ton of epic Greek sailing.
Of all the Greek stories, there is one sailing tale that stands out from the rest:

The Odyssey

It is about a guy who left his wife on the island of Itaka, and sailed to Troy to fight in a war. Hus name was Odysseus. When you take a look at the map, you realize that it must have taken him at least 3 months to make the whole ambitious journey.

We're ambitious, but not that ambitious. We'll follow a different story. That of his infant son, Telemachus. He had always asked about his father. But when he turned 20, asking the question was no longer enough. So he decided to sail all the way to Sparta to figure out the answer for himself. Looks like we can make his trip in about two weeks!

Let's Rock & Roll
Day 1
Lefkas Marina
Let's do some shopping and check in onto the yachts. We can spend the first night either here, or in one of picturesque lagoons located off the Lefkas channel.
Day 2
That's where the story really begins. Let's wake up in Odysseus' house on top of the hill. Meet the rising sun the way Telemachus did in the day. Then we go down the hill to our ships docked in the Frikes harbor. Let's begin the mythical quest. Let's look for Odysseus.
Day 3
We are not quite sure, but most likely Telemachus didn't plan to sail straight to Pilos. Probably had he stopped on Kefalonia first. Here our day will consist of laying on beautiful beaches and visiting a cave with no ceiling. A film was shot on this island called Captain Corelli's Mandolin. It tells a lot about the local culture and life. See it for your homework?
Day 4
Another stop on our way to Pilos. There is a quiet harbor surrounded by white walls. And a lonely shipwreck on the beach. Let's take a moment to explore this whole situation.
On our way we will meet the famous nesting site for Caretta-Caretta turtles. At night we'll have a chance to see them leave the sea in order to lay eggs.
Day 5
After a 12-hour open sea sail we finally get to Pilos. By now we'll have a pretty solid idea that Telemachus' journey wasn't all that easy. Here he met King Nestor, who told him the story of The Returns of the ACHAEAN LEADERS after the war. Apart from being a cool story, it also helped Telemachus to trace his father's steps.
We'll spend the evening exploring Nestor's castle.
Day 6
The legendary city of Sparta! We should wake up early for make the transfer. Nestor's son took Telemachus here to help him find answers. I'm pretty excited about this place.
Day 7
On our way back from Pilos we will have a nice opportunity to visit the capital of Zakintos.
Day 8
It's a very protected harbor on the southwest side of Kefalonia. We will rest here, and of course do some sightseeing. The famous point of interest here is the lighthouse of an unusual shape. It's called Fanari Lighthouse.
Day 9
A small town in the northwest of Kefalonia. It is very picturesque, quite, and protected.
Myrtos beach is close to Asos. We will spend all day just enjoying the blue waters and the white sand here.
Day 10
The capital of Itaka. It has developed infrastructure and good tavernas. We will visit the archeological and nautical museums here.
Day 11
This is a small town in the south of Lefkada. The entire point of us coming here is to enjoy some nightlife after a full day of swimming and sunbathing on the beautiful white sand beaches.
Day 12
Meganisi | Papanikolis Cave
On our way back to Nidri we should stop by this huge cave! Some people say even our yacht can fit there, but I will leave them guessing.
A famous private island. It is forbidden to anchor here, although there is nothing said about swimming and having fun.
As we get closer to civilization, it will be harder to avoid tourists.
So we'll just go straight into the jaw of the beat. Nidri is one of the most touristy places east of Lefkada. Which can be a great change due to the many tavernas with delicious Greek food. And it's easier to get to Odysseus' alternative house from here.
Day 13
Lefkas Marina
We spend most of the day exploring archeological sites of Lefkada. If there are any unexplored left. At the end of the day we dock here at the Lefkas marina.
Day 14
Lefkas Marina
We check out from the yacht early in the morning. Then on to the bus to Athens.

Meet your captain: Nikolay
Do you remember the feeling of coming home after a long time away? Nikolay had this feeling in June 2015 sailing into the open sea for the very first time, when he found his long lost home. True story. He was born a sea spirit but raised as a land shark. He had to find out the switch up eventually.

And so like mother's cooking, the call of the waves has taken him to the Aegean, to the Andaman and the Mediterranean seas. His first solo sailing trip was to Thailand, and it still ranks among his favorites. He continues to explore avidly and after 14 completed trips his former instructors at Yacht Travel refer to him as "one the most ambitious up-and-coming captains around".

Being a generous type, Nikolay loves to share the glory of his adventures with others: family, friends and tall dark strangers alike. Especially, helping the complete newcomers to open the door to Narnia of sea travel. Environmental consciousness is at the heart of his philosophy to keep the ocean clean and its ecosystems healthy. So he dedicates a lot of effort to build his trips mindful of the environment.

In 2017 Nikolay has already made plans to explore new seas. He is adding Norway, Caribbean, Maldives and Canary Islands to the list of his upcoming destinations.

Definitely one of the best things that occurred to me ever! 7 days of fun and pleasure non-stop,new friends, great tan, fabulous memories.
Alyona Gaevskaya
My sailing trip with Nikolay was the best yachting experience yet. On his boat, you're not just a passenger, but a part of the crew, which allows you to learn lots about yachting. He also listens to the ideas and preferences of the entire group regarding the route and masterfully sails the boat. :)

Environmental Professional
Sailing on a yacht around the Greek islands is one of the best experiences ever. And I'm convinced that our trip was so successful particularly because we had Nikolay as our captain. Under his guidance, I gained invaluable experience as a sailor and literally learned the ropes of yacht rigging.
Highly recommend!

Two weeks on the yacht are the ones I will never forget. It is the best way to find out a lot about yourself and the world. Unfortunately I can't join guys this winter, but I'm looking forward for an August trip to Norway.

And it is the best way to propose to your girlfriend, which I did!
